New Year

This is the year my son will die,

A slow decline into the dark,

And we will walk the vale of tears

A broken family torn apart;

The memories of childhood days

Like daggers in our shattered minds,

Potential gone, the future lost,

The dreadful scarring of the heart.

.

This is the year our son will shine

As he breaks through into the light

And we’ll respond with tears of joy

To see him conquer in the fight!

No fear in love, he’s held secure,

Salvation certain, come what may,

When heaven touches earth in him

May eyes be opened to the sight.

.

Is this the year You’ll intervene,

A miracle to make him whole,

A God-encounter, Spirit’s power,

To heal his body, mind and soul?

Where should we go, what should we do

To access heaven’s open door?

Our faces always look to You,

Our ears are listening for Your call.

.

This is the year we cannot see,

The cloud lies thick upon the way;

We stumble often in the dark

But always You’re our Strength and Stay

I do not know what lies ahead,

The path You’ve planned for us to walk,

I’ll leave the future up to You

And trust the Lord for grace each day.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and beautiful poem. I pray that you will continue strong in faith and love, no matter what the future holds. Thank God that we are safe for ever in his hands. I love the word ‘forever’, don’t you? It touches something deep inside and brings us hope.

  5. Ann says:

Sally Ann – you are kind and brave and wonderfully honest and there is little that we can say in response, other than that we stand with you in the mystery and magnificence of this life, both given and taken away.

  6. Teresa says:

So much love and respect for you! So much…..
